Recognition and Dedication Ceremony of Frank Carpa Rocha in Hawaii

The Department of Defense 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee will participate in a ceremony at the Korean and Vietnam War Memorial at the State Capitol to honor Frank Rocha Capra who has local ties/roots and was killed in action in Korea receiving the Distinguished Service Medal.  Mr. Rocha was buried in California but his family lobbied to get his name added to the memorial in Hawaii.

The Department of Defense 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee (KW60) participated in a ceremony at the Korean Veterans War Memorial on State Capitol Grounds to honor Frank Carpa Rocha,  a Distinguished Service Medal recipient, who was killed in action in Korea.  The ceremony was a recognition and dedication of the last stone to Mr. Rocha.  Director Ronald Han, State Office of Veterans Services, began the ceremony with welcome remarks and introductions and was followed with a conch shell presentation and Oli (chant), remarks were provided by Mr. Young-Kil Suh, Consul-General of the Republic of Korea, Mr. John Totten, Rocha Family Member and COL David J. Clark, Executive Director of KW60.  A certificate of appreciation, signed by the Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, was presented to the Rocha family.  A presentation of a floral lei was placed on the stone of Frank Carpa Rocha.  All distinquished guests and attendees paid respects to the stone.  The ceremony ended with celtic pipes and drums of Hawaii.  Approximately 50 Korean War Veterans attended to show support and honor.
